2008 British Craft Trade Fair - Silversmith wins BJA Award for Excellence
Published: 8th April, 2008
At this year's British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate, the winner of the BJA Award for Excellence in Jewellery and Silversmithing was Ann Marie Colquhoun. A graduate of Liverpool Hope University, Ann Marie spent 12 months at Bishoplands Workshops near Reading and then, after a period of work experience with two top London silversmiths, attended the Royal College of Arts, from where she graduated with a masters degree in 2007
Ann Marie's collapsible fruit bowl made a big impression on the judges - revealing a high level of craftsmanship and design skill, together with a very innovative solution to an overflowing fruit bowl. Her jewellery and silverware also features a new technique for applying ceramic transfers to silver. Ann Marie was presented with the winners trophy - a pewter bowl from Sheffield pewterer and silversmith Keith Tyssen. Ann Marie also received a replica of the bowl to retain - particularly appropriate as Keith was her external assessor at university.
